Album of the week: Selena Gomez's 'Stars Dance'

The former Disney star runs the gamut of genres on her latest album.

In four years, Selena Gomez has gone from a young actress covering songs with the word "magic" in them for the Wizards of Waverly Place soundtrack album to a chart-topping recording artist with a burgeoning feature-film career.

As Come & Get It, the lead single from Stars Dance (* * ½ out of four) has shown, Gomez is making more commercially viable music now, but she's still only as good as her producers, who now include Rock Mafia, Stargate and the Cataracs.

The dance-pop sound they've built for her brings in lots of outside elements, including Bhangra, dancehall and dubstep.

And while much has been made of Love Will Remember for being about ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber, Forget Forever is a better break-up song, with the couplet "Our love was made to rule the world/You came and broke the perfect girl."
