The Emmy Awards are designed to honor television's very best. But, of course, not every deserving show or performer can be admitted to the party. Here's a list of some of this year's Emmy snubs:

-- Jon Cryer ("Two and a Half Men"): Last year's winner for lead actor in a comedy couldn't even score a nomination this time around.

-- Monica Potter ("Parenthood"): Critics raved over her performance as a victim of breast cancer, but voters overlooked it. This might be this year's most egregious snub.

-- "Boardwalk Empire": The once buzzy show apparently has fallen off the radar. It failed to break into the outstanding drama category and lead actor Steve Buscemi also received no Emmy love.

-- Zooey Deschanel and Jake Johnson ("New Girl"): Their romantic story line drew a lot of attention this past season, but they both were dissed. (Deschanel was nominated last year). Also given the cold shoulder was co-star Max Greenfield.

-- Julianna Margulies ("The Good Wife"): Margulies, who leads what is generally considered the best broadcast drama, was denied this time around -- as was her show.

-- "The Americans": The cold-war spy drama was considered a breakthrough candidate. But the show, along with actors Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys, were passed over.

-- Melissa McCarthy ("Mike & Molly"): A two-time nominee and one-time winner, she'll have to console herself with her big-screen movie success.

-- Tatiana Maslany ("Orphan Black"):

No actress faced a bigger challenge, having to play multiple characters. But her first-year drama was relatively obscure.

-- "Arrested Development": The reboot of this cult favorite arrived with an avalanche of hype. Emmy voters, however, were apparently not that amused.

-- "The Walking Dead" had a breakout ratings year, but did not get a best drama series nod.
