Marvel Announces Avengers: Age of Ultron at Comic

July 21, 2013

Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige knows and appreciates the audiences that clogs up Hall H at Comic-Con, and makes to send them home with a lot to talk about a dissect. This year was no exception as a total of four Marvel films made an appearance in one form or another.

In addition to panels for Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier Marvel flew in writer/director James Gunn and the cast from Guardians of the Galaxy from the United Kingdom just to bring them on stage. Aside from Benicio del Toro, whom had not yet joined the cast overseas yet, they had literally just stepped off the plane and were scheduled to fly back the same night to continue filming.

Feige used the stage to announce the full cast for the film. This includes Dave Bautista as Drax, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Djimon Hounsu as Koranth, Lee Pace as Ronan, a bald-headed Karen Gillan as Nebula, and Beneicio Del Toro as the Collector. Also on the cast list are Glenn Close, Ophelia Lovibond, John C. Reilly and Enzo Cilenti.

The big surprise was some Guardians of the Galaxy polished footage despite the film only beginning production less than two weeks ago. The footage, loaded with comedy, brought the house down and is widely considered to be the best of anything that debuted at Comic-Con over the past several days.

Shortly after the footage debuted, Marvel released new Guardians of the Galaxy production art featuring the team: Star-Lord, Groot, Rocket Raccoon, Drax and Gamora. Click the image for the full size version.

To conclude Marvel's panel, Feige brought The Avengers writer/director Joss Whedon on stage for a final surprise. Whedon played a clip featuring moments from The Avengers that concluded with the head of villain Ultron from Marvel Comics and the title of The Avengers 2, to be known from now going forward as The Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Guardians of the Galaxy arrives in theaters on August 1, 2014, while The Avengers: Age of Ultron is set for the summer of 2015.
