USA Hockey's 48-person invitation list for next month's Olympic orientation camp includes a wide range of players.

It contains 16 players with Olympic experience and three of whom have yet to play an NHL game.

The list, considered the primary one of 2014 Olympic hopefuls, is headlined by several players off the 2010 silver medal team: Zach Parise and Ryan Suter (Minnesota Wild), Ryan Miller (Buffalo Sabres) Dustin Brown (Los Angeles Kings), Patrick Kane (Chicago Blackhawks) and Jack Johnson (Columbus).

But it also includes youngsters, such as goaltender John Gibson, the Anaheim Ducks' prospect, who led USA to a bronze medal at the most recent World Championships, and Winnipeg prospect defenseman Jacob Trouba, who was also on that bronze medal squad.

Prized prospect Seth Jones, picked No. 4 overall by the Nashville Predators, has also been invited to the camp.

The 48 players will meet Aug. 26-27, at Kettler Capitals IcePlex in Arlington, Va. Because of the high cost of insurance, there is not expected to be any scrimmaging or practicing when they meet.

The official USA invitation list:

Goaltenders: Craig Anderson (Ottawa), Gibson (Anaheim), Jimmy Howard (Detroit), Miller (Buffalo), Jonathan Quick (Los Angeles), Cory Schneider (New Jersey)

Defensemen: Zach Bogosian (Winnipeg), Dustin Byfuglien (Winnipeg), John Carlson (Washington), Dan DeKeyser (Detroit), Justin Faulk (Carolina), Cam Fowler (Anaheim), Jake Gardiner (Toronto), Erik Johnson (Colorado), Jack Johnson (Columbus), Jones (Nashville), Nick Leddy (Chicago), Paul Martin (Pittsburgh), Ryan McDonagh (New York Rangers), Brooks Orpik (Pittsburgh), Kevin Shattenkirk (St. Louis), Suter (Minnesota), Jacob Trouba (Winnipeg), Keith Yandle (Phoenix)

Forwards: Justin Abdelkader (Detroit), David Backes (St. Louis), Beau Bennett (Pittsburgh), Nick Bjugstad (Florida), Brown (Los Angeles), Ryan Callahan (New York Rangers), Alex Galchenyuk (Montreal), Kane (Chicago), Ryan Kesler (Vancouver), Phil Kessel (Toronto), Trevor Lewis (Los Angeles), Kyle Okposo (Minnesota), T.J. Oshie (St. Louis), Max Pacioretty (Montreal) , Kyle Palmieri (Anaheim), Zach Parise (Minnesota), Joe Pavelski (San Jose), Bobby Ryan (Ottawa), Brandon Saad (Chicago), Craig Smith (Nashville), Paul Stastny (Colorado), Derek Stepan (New York Rangers), James van Riemsdyk (Toronto), Blake Wheeler (Winnipeg)

The 2014 Olympic tournament is scheduled for Feb. 7-23, 2014, in Sochi, Russia.

If a player isn't on this list, it does not mean he cannot make the U.S. Olympic team. The final roster won't be revealed until around Jan. 1.

The size of the Olympic rosters has been increased from 23 to 25 for the Sochi tournament. The Americans are pondering a roster breakdown of 13 forwards, nine defensemen and three goalies, although that is not etched in stone.

The expanded roster size could open up the possibility of a younger player making the roster, someone like Galchenyuk or Bennett or Saad if they were in the midst of a breakthrough season.

In 2010, the Americans embraced the strategy of putting together a fourth line with players who were comfortable playing that role. It's presumed the Americans will do that again, which opens the door wider for players such as Oshie and Abdelkader who have the ability to play on a scoring line or a checking line.
