Indianapolis Colts rookie pass rusher Bjoern Werner became the 19th first-round pick from the 2013 draft to agree to his rookie contract.

The team announced it had reached a deal with the Florida State product Wednesday morning.

The ACC defensive player of the year as a junior in 2012, Werner had 13 sacks during his final season with the Seminoles. The Colts made him the 24th pick of April's draft.

But in addition to adjusting to the pro game, Werner is being asked to make the same transition former Colt Dwight Freeney did last year, shifting from defensive end to outside linebacker in Chuck Pagano's preferred 3-4 defense. Werner is vying for a starting job opposite veteran Robert Mathis.

The Colts open training camp Saturday in Anderson, Ind.
