Elton John has been felled by appendicitis, and has canceled an upcoming concert in London's Hyde Park.

John's spokespeople Fran Curtis and Gary Farrow confirmed that the singer/songwriter was diagnosed with the condition, and is currently being treated with antibiotics. He will undergo surgery in the U.K. in the coming weeks, and has been advised by doctors to postpone performances on his European tour, including the aforementioned headlining gig at the Barclaycard British Summer Time Festival this Friday.

Farrow noted, 'Elton is incredibly disappointed to postpone these tour dates. To know that he made such super-human efforts and continued to perform to thousands through his illness only confirms his dedication to his European fans. He is eager to be back on top form and return to play the remaining shows starting in early September 2013.'
